Clitoral Hood Reduction Surgery in Laguna Hills, CA

Clitoral Hood Reduction Laguna Hills, CA

The clitoral hood is a covering of skin that protects the tip and shaft of the clitoris in women. The clitoris is located at the top of the vulva (outside of a woman's genitals). The clitoris is a highly sensitive area and is responsible for much of a woman's sexual stimulation.

Clitoral hoods can vary in size and shape. In some cases, the skin of the clitoral hood may completely cover the end of the clitoris. To reduce its size, you may consider a clitoral hood reduction surgery. This is also called a clitoropexy by some providers.

Considering Clitoral Hood Reduction

Having a larger clitoral hood isn't necessarily a problem, but it could make sex less gratifying and make it hard to achieve an orgasm.

Other women may feel self-conscious about the size and shape of their genitals and consider surgery to repair it. Some women feel that abnormalities in the shape of their clitoral hood can even look like a small penis.

Clitoral Hood Reduction Surgery

The flaps of skin that cover a woman's vulva (outer genitals) are called labia (lips). These labia meet near the clitoral hood. If you have ever had a labia reduction or are considering one, some providers may also slightly reduce the clitoral hood at the same time.

However, this is not the same as a clitoral hood reduction. To reduce the size of the hood, providers will make a small cut near the bottom of the hood and then gently pull back on the skin and stitch the hood into a new position. Once the clitoral head and some of the skin are repositioned, your provider will be able to remove additional skin if needed.

The new position will not affect the nerves or sensations of the clitoris.

You should be able to go home from your surgery the same day. The procedure only takes about thirty minutes and many providers use local anesthesia. This means you will be awake the entire time and won't need to feel groggy or sleepy afterward.

You can expect some swelling and discomfort for a few days after surgery. You may need to use ice to reduce swelling and take pain medication or antibiotics if they are prescribed.

You should be able to return to work 2-3 days after your clitoral hood reduction procedure and resume many of your normal activities. Strenuous exercise or activities that put pressure to the clitoral hood (like riding a bike, motorcycle or horse) should be avoided for at least two weeks. Your provider will tell you when it's safe to resume sexual activity as well.
