Vaginal Rejuvenation Procedures in Trout Run, PA
Vaginal rejuvenation is a combination of surgeries used to improve the appearance of a woman's outer genitals (the vulva) at the opening to the vagina and tightening of the muscles of the vagina themselves. Vaginal rejuvenation is a type of gynecological plastic surgery.
It is also called a vaginoplasty or laser vaginoplasty.
Vaginal Rejuvenation Candidates
Women choose vaginal rejuvenation procedures for a variety of reasons including:
- To restore strength and tone to the vagina after hormonal changes, childbirth, or loss of estrogen (common with aging or after a hysterectomy)
- To improve sexual function and sensation
- To treat problems associated with pelvic relaxation including incontinence, or sagging of the rectum or bladder into the vagina
Your provider will talk extensively with you and complete a physical exam to help determine what procedures will be best for you.
He or she may recommend more than one procedure in addition to vaginal rejuvenation. Many of these procedures can be completed at the same time. For example, if you would like to have your labia (lips) reshaped, clitoral hood reduced, or hymen stitched back into its original place, it can be done during one procedure.
Remember that vaginal rejuvenation is a treatment to help restore function and sensation. It is not a treatment for low libido or orgasmic dysfunction.
Vaginal Rejuvenation Procedures
Vaginal rejuvenation procedures take one to two hours and will be completed in an outpatient surgical center. You will be asleep for the procedure and will go home the same day.
Some providers use laser technology during the procedure to reduce bleeding. Ask your provider what technique he or she uses.
During surgery, your provider will remove excess vaginal tissue and tighten the remaining tissue. He or she will also tighten the muscles and tissues at the entrance to the vagina if needed.
Women who have vaginal rejuvenation will keep all normal fertility - there is no effect on the uterus or ovaries. However, if you are still considering having children, ask your provider if a natural delivery is safe after vaginal rejuvenation.
Vaginal Rejuvenation Surgery Recovery
Loose clothing and underwear are mandatory for 72 hours after the procedure and light activity is fine as long as you avoid heavy lifting or any activity that would irritate the stitches.
You can return to work about 4 days after surgery and resume most normal activities. Some providers may recommend a week off work just to give plenty of healing time.
Pelvic rest for 6 weeks. This means nothing in the vagina. No sex. No tampons.
You should also avoid any activity that could put pressure on your incisions. This means no bicycles, horseback riding, jet skis, motorcycles or four wheelers. Bath tubs, hot tubs and swimming in the lake or ocean should be avoided as well.
